A Bunch of Stuff is an immersive world-building experience showcasing the artwork and personal artifacts of artist and actor Johnny Depp. Designed to feel like a journey through the inner workings of his imagination, the exhibit blends storytelling, visual art, and personal history into a cohesive and immersive environment.
The installation consists of two main components: a central “black box” theater featuring two 15-foot-wide curved screens, which display a custom 12-minute animated film created specifically for the exhibit. With multimedia director Emmanuel Malin, we collaborated with the incredibly talented animation studios E.D. Film and SeeCreatures, who brought this project to life using a variety of techniques — including stop motion, traditional frame-by-frame 2D animation, and complicated 3D animation. The film was accompanied by an original film score created by musician David Drury. This collaboration brought a vibrant layer of creativity and depth to the visual storytelling.
Encircling the black box is the "white box," a maze-like gallery made up of thematic vignettes. Each section presents carefully curated pieces of Depp’s original art and personal objects, offering insight into the stories, symbols, and influences behind his creative process.
Together, these two spaces form a multi-sensory experience that blurs the line between exhibition and inner landscape — a journey through memory, imagination, and identity.
